Gas Been Off for a While?
A common situation for landlords, vacant homes, and new owners.
If the gas to a property has been off for more than a few months, many Central Texas cities require a pressure test before service can be turned back on. The exact rules depend on which city the property is in.
We handle it from start to finish: the permit, the pressure test, and any repairs the test turns up, so the gas company can get your service back on.

Gas Line Questions
What should I do if I smell gas?
Leave the house right away and don't take chances. Don't flip light switches, use your phone, light anything, or start a car in the garage on your way out. Once you're a safe distance away, call Atmos Energy's 24-hour emergency line at 866-322-8667 and 911. If your home is on propane, call your propane supplier and 911 instead. After you're safe, call us to find and fix the leak.
How do you find a gas leak?
We use electronic gas detectors to trace the leak along your gas lines and fittings. That lets us find the source quickly and repair it, instead of guessing or replacing more pipe than you need.
Do you work on propane gas lines?
Yes. We're licensed to work on propane (LP) gas systems as well as natural gas. That includes finding and repairing leaks, replacing lines, taking lines out of service, and running new lines to appliances. It's common in the rural parts of Central Texas outside city gas service.
Do you come out for gas leaks after hours?
For our existing customers, yes. We'll come out and see what can be done. At a minimum, we'll get the gas shut off if the leak can't be fixed right away. For more serious problems, we'll usually shut the gas off, give you a quote for the repair, and come back to do the work during normal business hours.
My gas has been off for a while. What do I need to turn it back on?
If the gas to a property has been off for more than a few months, many cities require a pressure test before service can be turned back on. The rules depend on the city. We handle the permit and the pressure test for you, which comes up a lot with vacant rentals and homes that have been sitting empty.
Can you add a gas line for a new appliance?
Yes. We run new gas lines for appliances like a gas range, dryer, or water heater, and we pull the permits and do the required pressure test.
What does it mean to take a gas line out of service?
When an old gas line or an appliance connection is no longer needed, we safely disconnect and cap it so it can't leak. This is common when switching an appliance from gas to electric or when an old line is being replaced.
